💧 Glacier Preservation💧
This World Water Day, we highlight the crucial role of glaciers in providing freshwater to millions. Glaciers feed rivers and lakes, supplying water for agriculture, drinking, and sanitation. But with climate change, glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, threatening water access for communities worldwide.
Why Glaciers Matter
In regions like the Himalayas and Andes, many rely on glacier-fed rivers for water. As glaciers shrink, water availability decreases, especially in rural areas where women and girls bear the burden of fetching water, often walking long distances.
So, to ensure reliable water for future generations, we must conserve glaciers through sustainable practices and carbon emission reduction.
Protecting glaciers ensures not just water security but also better health, education, and economic opportunities, especially for women and girls.
🌟 The Ripple Effect of Water Access through our WASH initiatives with Cargill and Global Water Challenge:
Meet, Fifteen-year-old Coulou Hawahou, a pupil who lives in the village of Epako, three kilometers away from her school in Omeng; She recalls how the lack of access to clean water was a constant struggle. Every day, she had to walk the long distance to school, often without any certainty that she would have access to water to drink. The journey was exhausting, and many times, she had to go without, which made it hard to focus during her lessons especially during her period. “But everything changed when the borehole was constructed,” Coulou said with a smile. “Now, I can go to school without worrying about finding water to drink or take care of myself when I use the bathroom'.
As we celebrate this World Water day, let's unite for glacier preservation so that girls like Coulou can access clean💧
